The Charivari

Improv. Music. Madness!

Our next show: December 3!

Circo de Nada brings its improv show Charivari to Rise Comedy in 2023!

Our resident band of tricksters and fools presents a Charivari (or circus parade) of improv comedy, poetry, puppetry, and music that takes a bit of poetry composed by the audience and turns it into a world of inter-dimensional Vaudeville. We tear down the “fourth wall”; play behind, in, around, and under the curtains; and use our signature “Talking Hands” puppetry (or anything else that can be turned into a puppet) to entertain, inspire, and lead the audience on a trippy voyage through its own imagination. It is a unique experience unlike anything else in Denver comedy!

We use the structure of the circus parade, or perhaps a folk street procession, to find bits of poetry and joy in the moment. We look for language games, and even invent new languages on the spot, communicating through as many channels as we can. Sometimes we play in total silence! We engage in dialogue with the audience, and often with the person running lights and sound, to find a sort of collective consciousness, a real improvised “group mind,” and we ALL come out a little different on the other side. Our show invites and challenges the audience to be active participants in their entertainment.

What to expect? The unexpected!

 Psychosomatic

Release of this video presentation has been delayed. Stay tuned for details!

A new one-person sketch comedy and post-apocalyptic Clown show, created and performed by Nick Trotter

Please note that the video release date has been moved to November 8, due to unforeseen circumstances.

Circo de Nada and The People’s Building present Psychosomatic, a new one-person sketch show and post-apocalyptic Clown performance, created and performed by Nick Trotter. A follow-up to last year’s Idiopathic, this show gives stage time and a spotlight to the voices in our heads! An obsessive nonsense-talker, a tyrannical Doctor, a a gender-fluid storyteller, and Circo de Nada’s signature Talking Hands puppetry all make their appearances, with new original music by Bonejesters. Slipping between the conventions of Clown, Commedia dell’Arte, and Cabaret, Psychosomatic explores the liminal space between the psychologist’s office and a nightclub!
